Mechanism of action

  • Experimental model have been suggested to be due to phytosterols of pumpkin seed oil (PSO), are known to inhibit 5 α-reductase and to have antiandrogenic effects. Delta-7-sterols, is stopped agents of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) androgen receptors and thus it is inhibits the proliferation of prostate cells. Lower risk of prostate cancer is cause of dietary sterols. The effects of alpha-tocopherol and selenium are significant in preventing of oxidative damage to lipids, vitamins, hormones and enzymes. In experiments, a hypotensive action was demonstrated by the oil alone, and in combination with captopril and felodipine, also some constituent isolated from pumpkin seeds act as trypsin- inhibitors. The anthelmintic effect is attributed to the constituent cucurbitine. The efficacy of Pumpkin seed oil (PSO) for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and Urodynamic effects, Cardiovascular activity, Anti-inflammatory activity, Hypolipidemic effects, Antioxidant activity, etc. confirmed by numerous experimental studies (Clinical and animal models).

Interferences

  • Concurrent use with warfarin may increase INR.
    In concurrent use of anticoagulants drugs such as warfarin and clopidogrel should be controlled PTT and coagulation factors.
