Colpermin capsule contains 0.2 ml (187 mg) of peppermint (Mentha piperita) oil.

Instructions for use

  • One capsule three times a day, taken 30-60 minutes before food with a small quantity of water. The capsules should not be taken immediately after food. The dose may be increased to two capsules, three times a day when discomfort is more severe.
    The capsules should be taken until symptoms resolve, usually within one or two weeks. At times when symptoms are more persistent, the capsules can be continued for longer periods of not longer than 2 to 3 months per course.

Mechanism of action

  • Unlike other antispasmodics that are used to treat functional gastrointestinal disorders, and exert pharmacological effects as a result of their systemic bioavailability, peppermint essential oil exerts a local effect on intestinal muscles.
  • In order for this compound to show therapeutic effects, it has been proven that it must pass through the upper digestive tract unchanged and enter the small intestine with an enteric-coated formulation.
  • Peppermint essential oil has a mechanism of action similar to dihydropyridine calcium channel antagonists, and in fact, with an effect similar to the effect of calcium channel blockers, it reduces the entry of calcium into the smooth muscle cells of the intestine, and with this calcium antagonist action and direct relaxation of the smooth muscle Gastrointestinal, it acts as an antispasmodic with local effect and improves the rhythmic peristaltic contractions of the intestine.
